Preparing for your pregnancy photo shoot

Here are a few tips to help you get amazing pictures and have a memorable, fun experience at your maternity photography session.

When you book your session

Think about how you'd like to display your photos.

I know life is crazy right now (preparing for baby, growing a new life inside you - no biggie) BUT it's essential that you spend a little time thinking about where and how you'd love to display your family portraits at home.

I have a range of gorgeous artwork products for you to choose from, including albums, framed prints and canvases.

You'll be able to see and touch samples of all the products when you come in for your design consultation.

Discuss the shoot with everyone who's coming (including little ones).

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to capture this special moment in time, so make sure to give your partner, kids and pets lots of notice so they can get ready and excited for your photo shoot.

The week of your session

Plan what you're going to wear.

My advice? Keep it simple. Plain and neutral works best, or if you are more comfortable in darker clothes, make sure everyone is in plain, dark colours with no logos or heavy patterns. If in doubt, lay your clothes out on the bed and text me a photo (0483966462) and I'd be happy to give you feedback.

Snug fitting dresses work best for showing off your bump. If we're doing a studio maternity shoot, go for plain black or plain white/neutral, and if you are comfortable showing some skin you can wear a crop top and undies. Check out my maternity gallery for some inspiration.

Morning of your session

Iron your photo shoot outfits.

This will make a huge difference in your photos, because my camera captures all the little details in stunning clarity (including clothing wrinkles!). Wear plain clothes in the car and hang your photo shoot clothes up. You'll be able to get changed at the studio or park.

Check everyone's nails.

Remove any cracked nail polish, stamps, and dry skin. I will take some super close up photos so it will be noticeable. Don't stress about minor bruises and cuts as these can usually be edited out.

Pack snacks and favourite toys.

Bring snacks for any kids, as well as any favourite toys that can help get their attention.

Bring a hairbrush and make-up touch ups.

Allow around 1 hour for your photo shoot (not including time changing clothes).
